Boston
Patriots Day
In old Boston on April 20, 1775, Paul Revere made history with
his famous midnight ride through the streets of this most historic of
cities. The story goes that this famous colonial patriot rode through the
town after viewing the lanterns alight in the windows of Old North Church,
placed there to warn citizens that the British were about to attack.
|
To commemorate that famous ride, Bostonians come
together each year to celebrate what's become known as Patriot's
Day.
Celebrated this year on Thursday, April 21st, the day's events begin with a flag raising at City Hall at 9 am, followed by a gala parade and a re-enactment of Paul Revere's gallop through town. At noon, the Boston Marathon begins in rural Hopkinton and ends about 2 hours later at Copley Square. |
The Battles of Lexington and Concord, marking the start of the Revolutionary War are also re-enacted each year and are great events for families, especially history buffs.
