Overview:
The Boston 4th of July extravaganza is the nation’s most traditional – a lively and patriotic way for families to celebrate our nation’s independence in a stunning and historic setting.

Conductor Keith Lockhart and the fabled Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra – and fireworks, of course – are the centerpieces of the gala.

The concerts begin with a deafening, exciting military flyover. Then the Pops take the stage, performing a repertoire of classical music and rousing patriotic favorites with the help of guest performers.

The climax of the musical presentation on the Fourth is a very loud one indeed – Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” complete with church bells and real cannon fire! A

memorable fireworks show wraps up the events on the Fourth. The pyrotechnics are digitally synchronized to the music.

No alcohol or barbecues are allowed in the area, and there are boating restrictions on the Charles River. There will be large sound towers, so everyone in the throng can enjoy the festivities.

July 4 concerts along the river have been a tradition since 1929, and up to 700,000 people attend each year.
