When the trustees of Boston University saw a need for a multi-use center, Gerald Tsai, Jr. came forward and donated the needed funds to build the center that proudly carries his name.  On Valentine's Day 1989, the Center opened with the presentation of the opera Don Giovanni.

Since then, this 525-seat facility has seen many distinguished events such as a week-long taping of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" during the 2004 Democratic National Convention, the taping of "Late Night with David Letterman" show, the taping of "The People Speak", a program co-sponsored by the UN Foundation and ABC News, an evening with the lady that taught America to cook French food, Julia Child and her friend Jacques Pepin, the Great Debate, and much, much more.
