The Boston Symphony Orchestra is housed in a building that dates
from the 1900's and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The 2,626-seat Symphony Hall was financed by Henry Lee Higgins, a philanthropist
who contracted the firm of McKim,
Mead, & White to build ,what is considered today, one of the best concert halls
in the world.
Every year, during
the months of October through April, this acoustic marvel opens its doors for
music lovers to enjoy the Boston Symphony as well as the Boston Pops. The
memorable Arthur Fielder was instrumental to put the Boston Pops on the map in
the 1970's.
Afterwards, the legendary John Williams, an Oscar-winning
composer, took over the reins. Their most renowned event is the yearly
Fourth of July Concert performed on the Boston Esplanade
and watched by millions through the A&E network.
