The Boston Public Garden, though not an official stop on Boston’s
Freedom Trail, is located along that trail and certainly worth the
time it takes to make a stop there while perusing all the historic
sites of the city. It’s a peaceful place to stroll and
a nice place to take a rest while on the 3.5 mile trail that
winds around the downtown area.
In the Public Garden, you’ll find a pretty lagoon which is home
to Boston’s famous Swan Boats, a very regal statue of George
Washington on horseback, lots of birds, and some beautiful areas
awash with colorful flowers.
Kids will love the Make Way for the
Duckling statues, which were installed in the Garden as a
tribute to the children’s story of the same name by author
Robert McCloskey.
The statues are of the main character, Mrs. Mallard, and her eight
sweet little ducklings. With the exception of the swan boats, the
park is free to the general public.
