Harvard Square had its beginnings in
1630 as the first planned village in English North America. Visitors can still
walk the same streets that were first laid out nearly four centuries ago.
Today, this area of Cambridge, across the Charles River offers plenty of
attractions.
The Harvard Museums of Natural History and Art are both
world-class, the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology is
fascinating for young and old, theater and dance companies abound,
and concerts are a frequent occurrence around the Square.
Sporting fans can enjoy Harvard
University athletics and those with an academic slant can attend
readings and lectures.
Stores are plentiful in Harvard Square,
from upscale clothing shops to historic bookstores to antique
dealers. Families can find just about any service they need here,
including banks with ATMs, salons and spas, and photo processing
shops. Restaurants are plentiful, including many with children’s
menus, offering a wide variety of cuisine.
