The
Freedom Trail, one of the most traveled roads in Boston, is a 2.5
mile red brick path that leads visitors through and past some of the
most historic sites in all of the United States of America.
Constructed so that visitors to Boston could easily include all of
the city's best historic places in just one trek through the town,
this trail includes sixteen sites, all significant in the country's
struggle for freedom during the early years.
The trail begins in the 44-acre area known as the Boston Common
and ends in Charlestown at the Bunker Hill Monument. In
between, travelers have the opportunity to view such wonderful
sites as the Old South Meeting House, the site of the Boston
Massacre, Faneuil Hall, Old North Church, and Paul Revere's
House.
Each stop represents an important landmark in the history of
the country and is perfect for elementary kids studying American
history. The walk
is easy for most people, including children, and for those who tire,
plenty of public transportation is available along the route.
There
are also many restaurants and cafes situated near the trail where
hungry walkers can grab a cold drink or bite to eat. Many local
companies offer guided tours of the Freedom Trail or families may
traverse the path on their own.
