Franklin Park Zoo has been part of the fabric of downtown Boston for
almost 100 years. Founded in 1911, this 72-acre zoo is situated in
the middle of historic Franklin Park, part of Boston’s public park
system and considered to be one of the finest parks in the city.
Though this isn’t one of the biggest
city zoos, both children and adults will enjoy the exotic
variety of animals found here.
The Franklin Park Zoo is divided into several habitats:
Serengeti Crossing, where visits will view animals that are
normally found on the African Savannah like ostrich, zebra,
ibex, and wildebeests. Franklin Farm is full of
traditional farm animals such as goats, sheep, cows, and
chickens.
.
Kalahari Kingdom, where guests can find
safari animals; and Tropical Forest, with dozens of plants and
animals indicative of that eco-system. You’ll also find an
Australian Outback Trail with kangaroos and emus, a Bird’s World,
and Butterfly Landing. Admission is quite reasonable.
