Buttonwood Park Zoo, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, has often been
dubbed one of the finest small zoos in the United States. Based on
the theme “From the Berkshires to the Sea”, this zoo highlights the
land- and water-based wildlife of the state of Massachusetts and has endeavored to recreate the
habitats in which these animals live.
Currently, the Buttonwood Park Zoo is home to about 200
different species of animals though exhibits do change,
especially at the waterfowl pond where the birds are migratory
and free to come and go as they please.
You’ll find,
nonetheless, just about every family of animals here, including
birds, fish, invertebrates, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and
domestic farm animals.
Special events at the zoo include daily
seasonal “Wild Times”, full of activities for children to enjoy.
Family programs are plentiful as well and you can even join the zoo
staff for breakfast with the animals.
