Location: Boston Harbor
The Harbor Islands of Boston, a National Park area, total 34 in all and boast 1600 acres at high tide and 3100 acres at low tide. Thirteen of the islands are open to visitors. Getting to these islands, which are home to lots of interesting wildlife refuges, lighthouses, and Coast Guard stations, is half the fun.
Families may travel to the Harbor Islands via passenger ferries, which depart from Boston‘s Long Wharf and visits five of the islands.
