The USS Constitution, more commonly known as “Old Ironsides”, is one of the first Naval Ships ever to be commissioned by the U.S. Navy after its formation in 1794. Built in Boston, she was put to sea, as they say, in 1798 and remains the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world. The ship has a rich history, including battles in the War of 1812 and a stint as a training ship for midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy before and during the Civil War.
